Remember Dunkaroos? Here's how to make your own!

It's a tragedy they discontinued Dunkaroos. But I've spent weeks perfecting a homemade recipe that’ll hit you right in the childhood. Here’s the breakdown:

Dunkaroo Cookie:

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 egg
  • Sprinkles

Frosting:

  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • More sprinkles

Directions:

  1. Start by mixing flour, baking soda, salt in one bowl. In another, cream butter, sugars, and vanilla until fluffy. Beat in the egg.
  2. Combine the wet and the dry, then fold in sprinkles.
  3. Roll into balls, flatten slightly, and bake for 10 mins at 350°F.

Frosting: Whip all ingredients together until fluffy and colorful. Feel the '90s vibes!

Enjoy your DIY Dunkaroos and let the nostalgia trip begin!

I appreciate the effort put into this recipe, but having spent my childhood practically living off the stuff, the devil's in the details. The real secret to the Dunkaroos flavor lies in the type of sprinkles you use; you've gotta get those rainbow nonpareils to truly mimic the texture and sugar crunch. Also, the vanilla in the frosting should be clear vanilla extract for that authentic taste. You're on the right track though!

Lol what's next, homemade Gushers? Good luck trying to capture the magic of preservatives and artificial flavors at home. Bet it won't even come close 😂

Glad to see people making their own snacks, but whoa that's a lot of sugar and butter. Anyone got a healthier version of this? Maybe subbing Greek yogurt in the frosting and using a mix of whole wheat flour?

Nice, you've got a decent base recipe here. For anyone looking to elevate this, try chilling your dough before baking for a denser, chewier cookie. Also, I'd recommend using half butter and half shortening in the frosting for more stability and texture that's closer to the original Dunkaroos. Keep up the good baking work!

Holy throwback! I've been craving Dunkaroos for ages, and this recipe sounds like it's straight out of a '90s kid's dream. I'm totally gonna try it this weekend. Anyone tried adding different flavor extracts to the frosting? Thinking about hitting it with some almond extract for a twist.
