So my office 'upgraded' to 'ergonomic' chairs. These must've been designed by someone who hates backs. It's like sitting on a rock formation, except rocks have the courtesy not to pretend to be chairs. It has a lumbar support that punches your back and a headrest that might as well be a medieval torture device. I've seen more ergonomic design in a cactus.

As someone studying product design, this post is painfully funny because it's so wrong on so many levels. Ergonomic design is about enhancing comfort and efficiency, and this seems to achieve the exact opposite. It's a perfect example for my thesis on poor design. Mind if I use your description?

Can sympathize with your situation. True ergonomics is about supporting the natural curvature of the spine, not attacking it. I'd recommend you to try some chairs from proven brands like Herman Miller or Steelcase before accepting defeat. They might cost an arm and a leg but at least they won't break your back!
