Newsletter popup from hell

So I’m browsing this food blog, right? Looking for a good mac and cheese recipe. And BOOM, this newsletter signup pops up. But wait – there’s no 'X' to close it, and the 'No thanks' link?? Practically microscopic. Took like 10 minutes just trying to get back to the recipe. Not even a keyboard warrior could escape without zooming in 500%. Massive design fail, as if I’m gonna sign up now!

I used to run into this kind of design fail quite often during my travels when I was on the hunt for local recipes. I started using a browser extension to block these popups. Life-changing. Well, web-browsing-changing, I guess. You might want to look into it!

I feel ya. Whenever I encounter this, I just right click and inspect element, then delete the popup from the HTML. Gets me back to the cheesy goodness without playing their little 'find the X' game.

Guess they really wanted you to savor every possible moment on their site. Even if it's just you getting cozy with the world's tiniest 'no thanks' link.

Bet they hired a blind designer for that popup, lmao 😂 Just kidding... but seriously, that's just bad design 101.

From a UX standpoint, this is a classic case of quantity over quality. Increasing newsletter signups at the expense of user experience is a short-sighted strategy. Increased bounce rates are inevitable with such aggressive tactics. Not to mention, it's potentially violating accessibility guidelines.

That sounds like a nightmare. They probably lose more potential subscribers that way than they gain. Did you ever get to the recipe or did you just give up in frustration?
