Why does my printer need magenta to print in BLACK?

Just when you think you've seen all the bad designs, your printer hits you with the 'Cannot print in black and white because magenta is empty.' HAVE THESE PEOPLE EVEN HEARD OF GRAYSCALE?!?

This is why I refuse to own a printer anymore. Absolute thievery! I'd rather walk to the library or print shop than deal with the 'low ink' tyranny ever again.

Honestly, this just happened to me and I’ve never been so mad. Had to run to the store at 9 pm just to get magenta? Who even uses magenta anyway? 🤬 Ridiculous.

That's printers for you, grayscale or not. They're basically a front for selling ridiculously overpriced ink cartridges. Always check if the printer has a 'black ink only' mode before buying. Some do, some don't. It's a minefield out there.

Okay, but like... isn't the real problem that we still print stuff? it's almost 2023. Save the trees, email it! 😜

It's a total scam, my dude. Printer companies are milking us dry with this nonsense. They've known about using grayscale forever. It's all designed to make you run out of ink faster so you keep buying more. Don't get me started on those 'starter ink cartridges' they give you with a new printer that last like just 20 pages...

Okay so here's the scoop. Some printers use a small amount of color ink to produce what they think is a 'richer' black. It's dumb, but there's a reason. Of course, it's also a convenient way for them to get you to buy more ink. Check your printer settings, sometimes there's a way to force it to use black only, but not all printers have that. Good luck!

Ugh tell me about it. Just last week my printer pulled this stunt right before an important meeting. Refuses to print my report 'cause cyan is low... IT'S A TEXT DOCUMENT!
