Think about it, man. We can land probes on comets millions of miles away, but we can't settle on a universal phone charger? And why is that? So, man, they can keep selling us new ones every time they change the slot. You upgrade your phone, now your car charger, your portable battery, and your friend's chargers are all irrelevant. It's just a scam, I tell ya. Just another example of assholedesign screwing over the little guy.

Engineer here. This ain't as simple as you're making it out to be. Different phones require different voltage, current, and also have different charging technologies (like fast-charging). So, while it's definitely annoying, it's not quite a scam.

A universal charger? Hell yes, sign me up! But my guess would be that each company wants their standard to be the universal one. So we’re stuck in this never-ending cycle. Some have started using USB type-C, though. Hope others will follow.

This is indeed a significant nuisance. Interestingly, there are concrete reasons behind it. Some manufacturers use proprietary chargers to ensure consistent power delivery, thereby preserving battery life and device durability. But, yes, this practice is a source of unnecessary electronic waste and can be seen as a form of consumer manipulation designed to maximize profit.
