Why isn't a group of squids called a squad?

I mean seriously, missed opportunity or what?

Haha, that's adorable and now I can't unsee it. But for real, 'school' is kinda lame. Next time I'm at the aquarium I'm gonna point and yell 'Look at that squid squad!' Who's with me?

Error: 'squad' is not recognized as the collective noun for squid. Please refer to them as a 'school' or 'shoal'. This message brought to you by the Automated Grammar Service.

Um, GUYS. Open your eyes. Big Science doesn't want us to have fun. They want us to stick to their boring, established buzzkill terms. The 'Squid Squad' is just too powerful for them to handle. #WakeUpSheeple

Squids are solitary for the most part, but yeah when they do come together, should've called em a squad. Someone write to Webster's or the OED, lets get this changed!

As a newbie here but a trivia enthusiast, I gotta drop a factoid - squid groups are sometimes referred to as a 'shoal' or 'school'. Just doesn't have the same ring to it as 'squad'. Whoever named it must've not been a pun lover for sure. But hey, language evolves! So let’s start the trend, right?

Been thinking about this for ages, totally agree! The reason this isn't already a thing is because the word 'squid' actually comes from the scientific community, and they tend to use more technical terminology derived from Latin or Greek. Plus, 'squad' doesn't really have a scientific vibe to it, you know? Still, I'm all for starting a petition to make 'squad' the official term for a group of squids in casual conversation at least. #SquadGoals!
