Interesting twist! It could add depth to your story if, upon discovering their error, they realize they're actually more alike than they thought. Think of the character development! This could be a turning point where enemies become frenemies.

Oh man, this could be pure gold in a high fantasy setting. Imagine their confrontation in a dark, thunderous castle hall, magic crackling around them, and then they realize they're both wrong. They team up against an even greater evil that manipulated them both. Truly epic!

This would require some major reworking of their backstories and motivations. Why were they each convinced the other was their nemesis in the first place? Maybe they were both manipulated by a third party. Such a reveal could really deepen their characters.

They'd probably drop their weapons and just stare at each other for a long moment. Maybe the villain would start laughing first, a grim, humorless chuckle, and the hero would reluctantly join in. They'd end up reluctantly teaming up to find the real enemy. Betrayal is only sweet when shared, right?
