I'm a huge fan of authors who paint vivid pictures with their words. Can you guys recommend some short stories/novels that are rich in descriptive writing? I need some inspiration to get out of my current rut. Thanks in advance!

Look mate, if you’re into dark, descriptive stuff, try Edgar Allan Poe’s stories. 'The Fall of the House of Usher' is full of gloomy, atmospheric setting. And the descriptions are outta this world, if you get my drift. Totally creepy, but in a good way.

Few can rival the descriptive prowess of F. Scott Fitzgerald. His novel 'The Great Gatsby' paints such a vivid and colorful picture of the Roaring 20s. Equally commendable is his short story 'The Diamond as big as The Ritz', rich in luxurious and opulent imagery.
Additionally, Nathaniel Hawthorne's 'The Scarlet Letter' sweeps you into the Puritan society with its vivid portrayal of characters and settings. It might feel a bit heavy, but definitely worth it if you're looking for rich description!
