Working on a concept where pocket watches don't just keep time, they contain micro-universes. When you wind the watch, time goes wacky inside. Maybe the protagonist could be a watchmaker or a repair person who gets sucked into one? Could use some idea fuel here.

I stumbled upon a tale with a similar vibe, although not watches. The delicate mechanism of the watches could be a great metaphor for causality and consequence. Could be some sort of a time manipulation murder mystery, with the right twists and turns. Drama in every tick, danger in each tock.

Horologist here. You could get really technical with the watch parts. Maybe use actual parts like the balance spring or escapement and they have corresponding effects in the micro-universes. Escapement could be responsible for 'releasing' or 'locking' certain laws of physics inside!

Fascinating concept. The symbolism of the watch representing the fragility and complexity of universe(s) is deeply compelling. Perhaps the protagonist's own life reflects the state of the universes in their care – each repair echoes their own psyche, each ticking hand correlates with their heartbeat. The metaphorical potential here is immense.

Just joined the sub, but had to comment. What if the winding of the watch doesn't just affect time but also people's life spans or significant events? Like you wind the watch, and someone's entire life shifts - marriages, careers, births... could make for crazy stakes!

This is a dope concept, reminds me of those old fantasy novels with layers of worlds. Maybe the protag has a lost love trapped in one of these universes, and the whole story is them trying to sync up time to rescue them? Just throwing ideas out there!

So cool! Maybe when they repair watches, they're actually performing key tasks to keep the micro-universes stable. Could be that screwing a gear too tight could cause a natural disaster inside... gives a new meaning to 'time is of the essence' haha.
