The destruction of the Library of Alexandria was a monumental loss to history and knowledge. If it had survived, imagine the texts on philosophy, mathematics, science, and literature we'd still have. We might sport tech millennia ahead of our time by now, or philosophies of life that ensure peace across nations. How different do you guys think civilization would be? Would we have colonized Mars by now because of the unbroken scientific progress? Honestly, I think it would have accelerated the human race like nothing else.

The loss of the Library of Alexandria was tragic, but the assumption that we'd be SUPER advanced is too optimistic. Knowledge doesn't automatically convert to progress; you gotta consider social and economic factors too. Still, it's pretty cool to think about lost works of great thinkers that could've shaped our modern world view.
