UK's Tech Industry After Brexit

Post-Brexit, I've been really worried about the state of our tech industry. There are funding cuts, less collaboration with the EU, and a talent drain because of harsher immigration rules. Tech City used to be the dream, but now? What do you think about the UK's future in tech? Are we falling behind, or is there still hope for us to lead in innovation?

Not as bad as you think. Yes, short term pain is real, but the UK govt is aware and is trying to counterbalance with the new points-based immigration system to attract skilled tech workers. Keep an eye on policy changes in the next budget; investments in tech are likely to be a priority.

Ever since the referendum it’s been one thing after another. Funds are drying up - we're cut off from Horizon 2020, which was a lifeblood for tech research. And have you seen the state of the pound? But I guess we’ve all gotta roll with the punches and hope our MPs can negotiate something decent to replace what we've lost.

Working in a startup and yeah, it's tough. Used to be easier when we could grab devs from anywhere in the EU. Now it's more paperwork and costs. On the bright side, our company's started to look at local talent more seriously, gotta nurture homegrown devs!

It's a challenge, but there’s opportunity in adversity. UK's still strong in receiving venture capital, and there's a push towards developing 'tech clusters' outside of London. Money's flowing in, so not all doom and gloom. Keep an eye on Edinburgh and Manchester.

oh no, less collaboration with EU, what ever will we do without their red tape and bureaucracy lol. Tech's digital, it’s not like we're shipping coal here. We'll just pivot to the US and Asia, mate.

The brain drain you're talking about is serious, and it's not just the talent—it's about the connections and the easy exchange of ideas that we're missing out on. The UK was at the forefront of the computer revolution; think Bletchley Park, Alan Turing. We have the history and skills to innovate, but we can't rest on our laurels. Growth in AI and quantum computing are areas the UK could still lead, but only if we aggressively invest and attract talent.

It’s rough, not gonna lie. Since Brexit, half my old uni mates have left for Berlin or Amsterdam. The visa hassle just ain’t worth it for alot of them. We used to lead in fintech n' AI, but now? Dunno mate, feels like we're watching the global race from the sidelines.

I hear you, Brexit's done a number on us but I like to stay optimistic. The UK's got a solid foundation in tech, ripe for startups, and London's still a financial hub. Remote work's opening up global collabs more than ever - we could leverage that. Plus, the government's buzzed about boosting R&D spending, right? Let's keep our heads up and push for better policies.
