While I'm all for doughnuts, claiming any food as the 'national food' ties into a bigger issue. It's about preserving American tradition and values. I mean, shouldn't we be more worried about the erosion of our rights than the national food? Just my two cents.

Doughnuts, really? Despite the fact they're delicious, they're unhealthy as hell. Obesity is a major issue in America, and promoting donuts as the national food is just going to exacerbate the problem. How about we opt for something healthier instead?

Oh boy you have a war to fight brother

You doughnut lovers really need to calm down. Don't you know how much sugar is in those things? Plus, they're fried. If you're looking for the true American food, you should be promoting apples. An apple a day keeps the doctor away, after all!

Amen brother! Nutin' more 'Merican than a glazed doughnut with that mornin' coffee. Ya never see those burgers for breakfast, do ya? Checkmate, burger lovers!

Exactly! and besides I think we do doughnuts better then burgers. Don't get me wrong we have the best burgers in the world but we also know how to make some damn good doughnuts. To me America is beer, doughnuts, BBQ and burgers. I respect the opinion of those that disagree with me because that is the American way.

Hold up y'all! Donuts may have origins everywhere, but the 'American Donut' is something else. We've innovated, modernized & brought it to every corner of our country. There's a story in every frosting, glaze & topping. It's as American as a food can be, if you ask me. Versatility? Son, we got donut burgers!

I'm with ya, FriedAndTrue! BBQ is where it's at. Rubs, sauces, smoking techniques, you name it. We 'mericans have perfected the fine art of BBQ. Doughnuts are great but they ain’t got the versatility, depth of flavor, or cult following that good ole BBQ does!

I hear ya man, but gotta remember, doughnuts are universal. I mean, a lotta different cultures got their own twists on 'em. Wouldn't call it exclusively American, even though ours are supreme. Now BBQ, that's a different story.

but BBQ is also a Korean and Australian thing too

This argument is as American as apple pie - which, by the way, some might argue should also be our national food. But let's consider, America is a melting pot of cultures. We've got no single food that every state agrees on, even BBQ styles can cause a civil war. Maybe it's fitting, then, that our national food is a debate, just like our politics. It shows our diversity, our freedom to choose and disagree. So here’s to the American spirit, whether it’s dressed up as a burger, a doughnut, BBQ, pizza or even something else entirely. Cheers!

Thats true about the BBQ but when ya think about it, every nation's got their own food. American BBQ stands above the rest though, aint nothing can compete with slow-smoked Texas brisket or Carolina pulled pork. So in the same vein, American doughnuts have their unique flavor, aint it fair to give it the national food status?

Honestly I'm not sure anymore LOL

Been living in Texas for the past 50 years, and let me tell ya, ain't nothing more 'Merican than some slow-smoked brisket. Y'all can keep your fancy doughnuts. Ain't saying they ain't good but man... a nicely smoked brisket, now that's American. But I reckon that's the beauty of this country y'know? We got a bit of everything, why just choose one?

I agree with the folk above, it ain't a easy decision. No other country does such a variety of meals like we do. Donuts, pizza, burgers, BBQ, you name it. We've borrowed, adapted and made everything our own. That's the spirit of American food, aint it? So why limit ourselves with just one national food? We should be celebrating our whole diverse menu instead y'all!
0
Lmao, I'm just here for the food debates. But honestly, y'all are right. There ain't a sole answer for this. We do doughnuts and bbq damn right, but so do we with pizza and hamburgers. It's the melting pot of food y'all. I'd vote for 'em all.

You're right on the money! Doughnuts symbolize all the things we love: free choice (in toppings), entrepreneurship (small doughnut shops), hard work (making doughnuts) and definitely traditional American values.

Donuts?! Nah, we need something healthier as our national food. Ever thought about like, I dunno, kale or something? We gotta get away from all this sugar, man, it's killin' us.

Boring 🥱

I get it, I get it. Donuts are delicious, no denying it, but it's all about healthy alternatives. Ever try a avocado 'donut'? Instead of a sweet, sugary glaze, it's filled with a delectable mix of tomatoes, onions and seasoned avocado. It's a fresh take on a classic, and isn't as bad as it sounds!

Idk why we gotta be picky about our national food, man. Health, variety, sure. But when I think of a good ol' American breakfast, donuts and coffee come right to mind. It's sugary, yeah, but boy isn't it a great way 2 start a Sunday mornin'? 🍩☕️

Boring? Bruh, donuts are anything but! Ever had a maple bacon donut or a crème brûlée filled one? There's a world of non-boring donut flavors to try. Bet your kale can't compete with that 😜

No doughnuts aren't boring, I was calling out @HealthyHawk for his boring choices in a national food

Sure, make fun of @HealthyHawk and me all you want, but you're all missing the point! Forget taste for a second - I know, I know, it's hard - and think about health benefits. We're in the middle of an obesity epidemic and you guys want to make donuts our national food? It’s about balance, guys! And kale's got nutrients out the wazoo! Think about it.

You know what mates, as much as I’m down for donuts, I gotta throw another option in - apple pie. It’s sweet, it’s savory, it’s as wholesome as our flag, AMIRITE!? It’s the granddaddy of American desserts. Calling it BORING? That’s just unamerican, man.
0
Yo @HealthyHawk, I hear you dude, but c'mon, kale as a national food? Get real! 🍩s are deep-fried bits of doughy heaven. And the variety? Mate, there's no comparison. Simple glazed, strawberry frosted or even the jelly-filled.. oh man, now I'm drooling 😋

Doughnuts as the national food?! Heck yeah! Think about it. We got every flavor under the sun, from glazed to maple bacon. There's something for everyone. 🍩

Finally someone gets it

In all seriousness though, food and its symbols have historically represented the culture and ethos of a nation. Everything from the way it's prepared, served, and consumed is a reflection of societal values and identities. Take doughnuts- an argument can be made about consumption, convenience, diversity in flavors or styles, & how they're inherently bustling, on-the-go, and industrial - much like America itself. It’s certainly an interesting notion.
