Why are some dubs so cheesy?

ugh just watched my first anime in English after years of subs and why is it so cheesy? I swear the dialogue feels so forced... and don't even get me started on the lip syncing LMAO! Does it get better or am i stuck with subs forever?

Some dubs are cheesy, some aren't - it's the luck of the draw! The thing is, cheesy can be fun in its own way. And sometimes, it's just nice to watch an anime without reading, ya know? But, if cheese ain't your style, there's no shame in sticking to subs!

Read the manga, then watch the anime in subs. That's the golden pathway to true enjoyment. Dubs just can't compare to the subbed version or the original manga which is 100% pure.

I literally just joined cuz I had the same reaction to a dub. It's so jarring! Tried another show and it was the same deal. I guess some people like that kind of thing?

Voice acting is a tough gig, ya know? Some scripts ain't great, but actors do their best. If you want better dubs, support the industry. Demand goes up, quality follows. Also, some dubs actually add flavor that subs don't have.

Been watching anime since the '80s... lemme tell you, dubs have COME A LONG WAY. Used to be so bad we'd celebrate if the names were pronounced correctly. Now it's hit or miss. Some dubs nail it (like Baccano!), while others are, yeah, cheesy. Trick is to research the dub cast/crew before diving in.

It's an acquired taste honestly. I used to think the same but after a while, I started appreciating the effort that goes into localization and getting those lip flaps kinda right 😂 Give it some time, or try different shows! Some studios are really stepping up their game!

lol, welcome to the dub club, it's a wild ride. But for real, most dubs just can't capture the original emotion or timing of the OG Japanese voice actors. You'll notice a lot of Westernization of jokes that throws the whole vibe off. Some dubs do get it right though, like Cowboy Bebop and Fullmetal Alchemist. Stick with subs if you want the real deal.
