Sorry, not sorry, but reality TV shows have jumped the shark. They're more scripted than my high school drama club's play. I mean, you seriously expect me to believe that EVERY single episode is gonna have a meltdown, a surprise guest, and a 'shocking' elimination?
Let's not even start on the drama between the participants - it's way too convenient that the mics are always on and cameras are in the right place at the 'spontaneous' fights. Puh-lease.
I miss the days when reality TV was about people just trying to survive on an island or running their business. Now it's just who can cry the loudest on camera.

Alright, lemme give u some inside scoop since I work in the industry. It's not as scripted as you think, but we gotta keep things interesting, right? People won't watch if it's too mundane, and ratings are what keep the show on air. It's a fine line and the art is in making the contrived feel spontaneous.

Man, you hit the nail on the head. Remember Survivor season 1? That stuff was gold. Raw human competition and alliances, no need for the crazy edits and plot twists we get now. Nowadays it's like watching a superhero movie but less believable.

The authenticity of reality TV has always been subject to producer manipulation, but what we see now is an increased demand for conflict-driven narratives. The so-called reality is a careful orchestration of events designed to elicit strong emotional responses. Studies in media psychology suggest that viewers have a penchant for vicarious experiences, often blurring the line between reality and entertainment. These shows are a social experiment as much as they are a reflection of societal voyeurism. One begins to ponder if we're observing a space where the medium is the message, as McLuhan proposed.
