Super Why or Reading Rainbow?

Just curious how you guys feel about Super Why versus classic shows like Reading Rainbow. I grew up on Reading Rainbow, but my kids are super into Super Why. Both are about reading, but do you think one is better than the other? Thoughts?

Super Why is just too repetitive for my taste. Yeah, it's educational but doesn’t hold a candle to Reading Rainbow’s vast diversity in books and storytelling styles. We get it, they jump into books. Reading Rainbow had a soul!

Both shows have their merits. As an educator, I value both the exposure to literature that Reading Rainbow provides and the phonics focus of Super Why. But I do miss shows like Reading Rainbow that cultivated a passion for books and reading on a deeper level. They complement each other, and I’d recommend any parent to expose their children to a variety of reading shows.

Super Why is the bomb! The way they teach phonics and word recognition is unmatched. Reading Rainbow was good in its days but Super Why takes it to the next level. My kid's reading has improved so much thanks to those super readers. #TeamSuperWhy

lol none of these shows got anything on Spongebob. Good luck getting ur kids to read Moby Dick after they watch a sponge fry patties underwater.

Both are fantastic shows in their own right. Reading Rainbow comes from a different era of children's programming, focused more on the storytelling aspect and the joy of books. Super Why, on the other hand, is very much about literacy skills and solving problems using those skills. Different goals but both valuable. For parents looking to instill a love for reading, why not combine both? Old school RR for story appreciation and SW for active learning!

Super Why is a hit at our house. The interactive element and the superheroes theme really engage the kiddos. Reading Rainbow was great but it's more for older kids, not the little ones who are just starting out with letters and sounds.

IMO Reading Rainbow has this timeless charm to it that Super Why just can't match. Grew up with LeVar Burton taking me on those adventurous reads! But hey, props to Super Why for keeping reading fun for kids today.
