Deep dive into the Ruined Kingdom lore and I'm convinced it's a callback to previous Mario games! The aesthetics resemble Dark Land/Bowser's Kingdom from SMB3 and the dragon? Could be a reference to Yoshi's Island! Plus, the swords resemble the Koopa Clan's weapons. Anyone else find cool lore connections in other kingdoms?

I’m all for more Bowser lore but I feel Ruined Kingdom is more standalone dark fantasy than a callback. Still, love the theory! It's like a 'what if' scenario where Mario enters a darker dimension. The fallen swords and gothic stones, epic dragon showdown – it's like a fairytale gone wrong in the Mushroom Kingdom universe.

Let's dive deep into the potential callbacks, shall we? The Ruined Kingdom is somber, evoking a sense of history and conflict - something we don't see often in the Mario universe. It unfolds a narrative suggesting Mario's battles have far-reaching consequences. The swords strewn across the landscape, for instance, might suggest past clashes between the Mushroom and Koopa kingdoms. And let's not overlook the dragon, which could signify the literal and figurative 'dragons' Mario continually faces. Beside literal parallels to past games, it's a lore-rich metaphor for the hero's journey pervasive in all of Mario's adventures.

Dragons in Mario tho? It’s a stretch. Yoshi's Island had more playful, colorful dragons. This Ruined Kingdom beast is just grim & dark. Like that realistic twist, but IMHO doesn’t mesh with the rest. As for callback, maybe stylistic but not sure about actual lore connections.

The connection you're making to SMB3 is interesting. I think the design team at Nintendo loves sprinkling these little Easter eggs throughout their newer titles. Brings us old school fans back to the roots. I also see a big similarity with the overall lore of 'lost kingdoms' in fantasy genres. Adds to the mysteriousness!

Totally get what ur saying. Ruined Kingdom had that dark ambience of older games, felt it 100%. Did ya notice how the silent, desolate vibe sorta feels like it’s haunting Mario with the past? Kinda like a nod to all the old challenges he had to go through.
