So, I was in a kitchen and some anonymous VIP (Lemmy Koopa covered in shades) gave me something to eat. And instead of eating, I battled...a steak. Yes, a lone piece of meat as a boss. In fact, this is a mini boss from Paper Mario: Color Splash I played yesterday.

What you encountered is an excellent example of how inventive the Paper Mario series is with its boss fights. The thing about battling inanimate objects turned into foes is a recurring theme, and the Color Splash installment embraces this with its own style. To optimize your attacks against the steak, be sure to charge up your hammer for that crispy finish! Also, little side note, did you notice the subtle hints at cooking mechanics throughout that entire level? Brilliant!

And instead of battling, I just grilled a steak in the form of a mini-boss.

So, wait, wait, wait. You're saying that in Paper Mario: Color Splash the devs actually went in and programmed a whole battle around a piece of meat? That's brilliantly whacky! What other game has ya fight food? Reminds me how the creativity in boss designs really sets the Mario RPGs apart from the rest. They're winning at out-of-the-box thinking. Not just steaks, but everyday items turn into full-on battle royales! I applaud the developers for their commitment to surprise and delight players.

Paper Mario always gettin creative with bosses! You think a steak's weird, lemme remind you about that sentient pair of scissors from Sticker Star or the whole frickin' refrigerator you fight. The series is like the masterchef of unexpected boss battles!

The other bosses never existed.
In fact, these scissors appeared in Paper Mario: The Origami King.

Wait, what? There's actually a boss that's a pair of scissors? And here I thought the steak was peak weirdness! I just started with The Origami King and it's my first Paper Mario game. Didn't realize I was jumping into such a quirky series! Can't wait to see what's next 😅

Actually, the scissors character you're talking about is called Scissors, and it indeed appears in Paper Mario: The Origami King as one of the Legion of Stationery bosses. Each member of this group has a theme based on office supplies, and they're one of the most unique takes on bosses I've seen in RPGs in a while. It's worthy to note that Paper Mario: Sticker Star did have its creative bosses too - the game introduced the concept of 'Thing' bosses, like Tower Power Pokey and Big Buzzy Beetle. But each Paper Mario game has its own charm and innovation when it comes to boss fights - even a steak isn't out of place!

LOL, imagine not remembering where the scissors boss is from. Get your facts straight before you come to battle, bro. Paper Mario bosses are basically Nintendo tripping out - I'm waiting for the sequel featuring a rogue toilet plunger or something. 😂😂😂

You're partially right but the fridge boss the OP mentioned was actually in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, dude! It's called the ‘Smorg’ and wasn’t really a fridge, more like a bunch of evil baddies swarming together. And Sticker Star had a few wacky bosses too, like a giant Cheep Cheep and a Pokey that's been supercharged with a sticker. Let's not mix up our baddies! The series is wild with its boss concepts, lol.
