Turning my baking hobby into a business. Tips?

Yo everyone, during the lockdown I got pretty good at baking sourdough. Friends and fam can't get enough of it. Thinking of flipping this into a little side business. Homemade bread delivered to your door sort of deal. Just bought a domain and not sure where to go from here. Anyone done the food startup thing? Would love some pointers!

Heck yeah sourdough! Make sure to have a catchy name and awesome logo, people remember that. Maybe do a bread of the month thing to keep things exciting?

Been in the biz a while. What helped me at your stage was networking with coffee shops or small stores to see if they'd sell my bread. It’s a good way to expand beyond friends and family. Also, consistency is key in quality and delivery time. People need to rely on you for their carb fix!

Legal stuff is a drag, but don't skip it. Check the regulations on selling food from home. And insurance, don't forget about insurance in case something goes south.

I'd say focus on nailing down your operational stuff—like how much you can bake in a given time, delivery logistics, and cost analysis. Get feedback early and often, tweak your recipes if you have to, and keep an ear to the ground for customer prefs. Oh, and do some market research to price competitively but fairly.

Maybe consider subscription-based services? Regular customers weekly. Also get some nice branding going, people love a good story with their bread. Maybe share some of your journey on a blog paired with your website?

Did something similar last year! Get yourself set up with the necessary health permits and find a good schedule. You might need to look into cottage food laws if you're in the US. Good luck!

Sourdough's all the rage right now, nice one on catching that wave. What worked for me was starting small, attending local farmers markets to get the word out there. Social media is a big help too, get your insta loaded with those crumb shots!
