Social networks are all the same

another day, another 'revolutionary' social network startup trying to be the 'next big thing' 🙄. Spoiler: It's just copycat features & a slightly altered UI. Guess what, they'll tank in a year tops. LOL

I tried this on a dead dog called Boo Boo, who had the former title for a shortest dog until her passing in 2009

Hmm, shortest dog, eh? Maybe that's the attention span the devs expect us to have for their 'revolutionary' platforms. Blink and it's gone, just like Boo Boo's record. RIP Boo Boo and RIP originality in social media, LOL!

Look, Boo Boo's title was a niche accolade, something unique in a world full of norms. If the startup scene could actually innovate like that, we’d see real change. But it’s all buzzwords. No substance. Copycat features won’t cut it. We need the equivalent of breaking records, not repeating them.

Well, I guess if we're resurrecting things from 2009, I'm holding out for the return of Myspace and emo bangs. Until then, I'll take my social media without the dead pet references, thanks.

Not sure what Boo Boo's record has to do with the startup convo, unless I’m missing some tech necromancy where we're bringing back old ideas and expecting them to run? lol

Take it from someone who’s seen pitches day in and day out, it’s brutal out there. Most of these startups lack the 'it factor', but once in a while, I see a gem. It’s all about pivot potential and who’s behind the wheel. Adapt or die, as they say in the valley.

The thing is, what works in one market doesn’t always translate globally. Some of these networks are actually hitting it off in other countries where certain features are more in demand or novel.

Next big thing, my foot. They're all just data farms waiting to sell your info. One like = one prayer for our privacy, amirite?

I'd argue that sometimes, even small iterations can make a big difference in terms of user experience. Not every platform needs to reinvent the wheel to be successful. Twitter started out as just 'status updates' yet look at the impact it has. Always room for more.

I see where you're coming from, but isn't this a bit too pessimistic? Yes, a lot of social networks fail, but every now and then one comes along that really shakes things up. It's all about that unique value proposition, and admittedly, that's hard to find. But hey, they're trying.

lmfao the UI is like putting lipstick on a pig sometimes 😂

Harsh! Sometimes it takes a few tries to hit the sweet spot. I mean sure, a lot of startups don’t make it, but isn't that the whole point of innovation? Fail faster, succeed sooner.

Totally agree. Half the time, these 'innovations' are just recycled ideas with extra steps. Throwing in buzzwords like 'blockchain' or 'AI-powered' doesn't hide the fact that they haven't solved a real problem
