How to properly report a subreddit for guideline violations

As a seasoned mod on several subs, I often see users unsure about how to report a subreddit. Here’s a quick guide:

  1. Document everything: Screenshots, links, and any relevant user history.
  2. Check the rules: Make sure what you’re reporting actually violates Reddit’s official guidelines.
  3. Use the report function: On the subreddit’s main page, there’s a ‘Report’ button. Use it wisely but only for serious violations.
  4. Contact Reddit admins: This should be your last resort and used for larger issues like site-wide policy breaches.

Remember, false reporting can be disruptive, so always ensure your actions are justified.

Can I report a subreddit just for existing??? Some of these places are just cringe farms. 😂

You could automate parts of this. I use browser extensions that auto-save page screenshots. Super useful for grabbing evidence in real-time. I'd recommend checking the Chrome or Firefox stores for these tools.

Man, I wish more ppl read this. Too many false reports flooding the system just makes it worse for everyone. Almost feels like playing whack-a-troll with some subs... except the trolls keep winning. :/

So you say use report wisely? But does Reddit really even pay attention? Seems like some subs get away with murder while others get slammed for small stuff. Might as well just ignore those shady subs. 😒

Actually, there's something often missed: Subreddit rules aren’t the same as Reddit’s content policy. You could break sub rules but not Reddit’s guidelines. So when reporting, always refer back to the official content policy at redditinc.com. Don't just assume a rule violation in the sub is reportable to admins.

Yup, seen so many cases where people don't check the actual guidelines before reporting. Heard once about a user who reported a sub just because they didn’t like the content. 🙄 Come on, do your homework first!

Thx for this! I'm pretty new here and didn’t even know you could report whole subs. So screenshots and stuff is a good idea? What if I don't have them? Does that mean nothing can be done?

Solid guide! Most folks don't realize how detailed they need to be. I'm always telling users, DOCUMENT EVERYTHING! Admins won't take action with vague reports. The more detailed the better. 😤 I once had a case where a user had the entire thread history screenshot...made things so much faster!
