Okay, so here's what I've been working on: A detailed theory about Mayor Humdinger before he became Foggy Bottom's mayor. I think he was friends with Mayor Goodway once and maybe something turned sour? His need to compete seems personal, right? There're subtle hints in the way they interact in earlier seasons. Maybe there’s backstory we don't know about. Thoughts??

Fascinating discussion! Humdinger's competitive nature could indeed be fueled by something beyond mere rivalry. What if they were once best friends, but a major falling out led to his relentless competitiveness? It’s the classic scenario of friendship gone wrong. The ebb and flow of their interactions have an undertone of unresolved issues. If only the show would dive into this potential goldmine of a backstory!

Yo, I noticed that too. Sometimes it feels like Humdinger goes out of his way to bother Goodway, like in the episode with the pie contest. I think there's history there we don't see on screen. Probably used to run in the same circles before coming to Foggy Bottom.

Great theory! In S2E3, Mayor Humdinger shows a picture of a young Goodway in his office. I've always thought that was a hint of a shared past. As a huge fan of the show, I dig deeper into character motivations, and there's ample evidence to suggest some history. Their rivalry is too personal – it's not just about competition; it's about one-upmanship that you usually see between old friends or siblings. Coincidence? I think not.

Oh for sure, Humdinger’s backstory is totally sus. There’s gotta be a reason he’s always competing with Goodway. Would be wild if they were like, childhood rivals or ex-best friends turned enemies. Anyone else remember that one episode where he kinda hesitated before messing with her? Couldn't be just me!
