So, I used to go to a local milk bar and they used to sell this weird icy pole called Wowzers. I think it was made by Peters around the late 80s/early 90s.
The icy pole was entirely black and was shaped like a 3D rectangle, and when you licked on it or ate a chunk of it, it would turn your mouth black. I remember the flavor of it being sour blackcurrant.
The last time I tried it was in 2001. Sadly, I can't find anything about this online.

Drove an ice cream truck in the 90s; can confirm Wowzers were a hit. Every stop I'd have kids lined up for them during summer, great times. Then they just vanished from our stock lists one season, no explanation. Rarely had a product that fun.

Wowzers were indeed a product by Peters Ice Cream. You're recalling it right. Unfortunately, the frosty treat didn't fit the health boom later on. Food coloring and those sour agents got a bad rep. They were discontinued like many quirky snacks of the era. Shame really, they had character.
