Should Metroid return to its roots or keep innovating?

Metroid series has been all over the place, 2D, 3D, remakes, etc. What do y'all think the next Metroid should be like? I’m torn between a classic 2D style or another Metroid Prime. Thoughts?

Idk, remakes have been kinda solid. Zero Mission was amazing. Maybe another older game could use updating? Or what if they made a game that fills in some gaps in the timeline? There are parts of the Metroid story we basically know nothing about.

We seriously need a direct sequel to Fusion. It ended on such a cliffhanger with Samus becoming part pirate basically. That story NEEDS to continue. Also, I kinda miss the suspense and those intense SA-X moments.

I don't think it's about 2D vs. 3D, but more about the story and lore moving forward. Whether it's 2D or 3D, the next Metroid should dive deeper into the Chozo lore and Samus' past. Like, there’s so much untapped potential in the storyline.

Metroid should just be a battle royale game at this point, everyone's doing it lol

I'm split. The nostalgic part of me wants the classic 2D side-scrolling action, but then again, Metroid Prime was my jam. Maybe do both? A new 2D Metroid for the old school fans and keep developing Prime for the newer crowd?

The Metroid Prime series expanded the Metroid universe in a way 2D can’t capture. Stepping into Samus' visor in first-person added so much immersion. Plus, the lore and world-building were top-notch. Can’t wait to see what Metroid Prime 4 brings, and I'd rather they continue in this direction.

2D all the way!! The original formula is what made Metroid amazing. The atmosphere, the platforming, the exploration... just perfect it and maybe add some modern twists like they did with Hollow Knight or Dead Cells.

Honestly, Metroid should keep pushing the envelope. The series is at its best when it's innovating. Like, remember the leap from Super Metroid to Metroid Prime? That was epic and set a new standard for exploration in games. We need more boundary-pushing like that!
