Anyone else think that blue shells are just the WORST? Just won first place for like the 5th time this week only to get hit right before the finish line. Ugh, I guess that’s Mario Kart for ya.

The design of blue shells is to shake up the race and introduce a mechanic of uncertainty and chance. It's frustrating, sure, but it's integral to the Mario Kart experience to keep the competition open until the last seconds. Without such mechanics, player skill would dominate and make races predictable for the leading racer.

Strategize your item usage. If you have a sizable lead, dropping back to 2nd before the last lap could save you from the dreaded blue shell strike. Pressure second place to overtake, then hit 'em with whatever you've got. Brutal but effective.

Pro tip here: when you're leading the race and you know a blue shell is coming, keep an eye out for the second-place racer. Slow down just enough to get them caught in the blast if you can't escape. Or, clutch a Super Horn and save it for those moments!
