Seriously, why does everyone forget about Super Mario Bros. 2? It's got the best character choices - Princess can freakin float, Toad is a speedy little guy, and the whole dream angle? Cool as heck. Mouser and Wart deserve more love too imo.

There's a lot to appreciate about Super Mario Bros. 2 if you really dig into it. The character selection indeed offers something unique, which we don't really see again until much later titles with different playstyles. Also, the fact it takes place in Mario's dream opened a lot of doors in terms of design and enemies. Characters from SMB2 like Shy Guys and Bob-ombs became regulars in later games, which just proves how impactful it was. It's a standalone masterpiece that deserves more credit for its contribution to the Mario universe.

YESSS! Finally, some SMB2 love! Princess Peach floating is basically the best thing ever and let's not forget those dreamy door potions. And guys, the music, come on! The music alone makes it top tier. Every time I pull a turnip out of the ground I'm brought right back to my childhood. OPEN YOUR EYES PEOPLE!! 👑

I've played every Mario game out there and I'll say this - SMB2 is vastly underrated. Its divergence from the traditional platformer elements of the series is probably why it doesn't get the credit it deserves. But that's what makes it stand out - the uniqueness of the dream world, Subcon, the picking up and throwing mechanics, and those boss fights! It was ahead of its time, and the innovative character abilities provided a gameplay diversity that we hadn't seen before in the franchise.
