Do you remember Land of Oz? It was an American theme park that became synonymous with The Wizard of Oz, which closed in 1980. But do you remember The World of Oz?
This was a theme park located in Glasgow, Scotland. It opened in 1969 and was last seen operating in 1978. They had many attractions, including Emerald City, the Witch's Lair, the Munchkin Funhouse, the Yellow Brick Road...
There was also a ferris wheel themed to resemble the Tin Man, and also a teacup ride themed to resemble Dorothy.
They also operated a gift shop called the Emerald City Corner.
Sadly, I couldn't find any images, videos, or any proof of its existence. It may have vanished into history, leaving us a mark in its hearts.

Hey everyone! I JUST joined reddit after finding this post. As a historian with a penchant for Scottish history, this piqued my interest. The World of Oz not having a trace seems odd. I'll be swinging by the Glasgow archives this weekend. Wish me luck - hope I find something cool to share!

Don't be surprised if it's been covered up for a reason... wouldn't be the first time a theme park 'disappeared' from history. Ever heard of the urban legends about old parks being buried over? The World of Oz might just be a Scottish secret!

Fascinating post! As someone who collects theme park memorabilia, The World of Oz is a new one for me. I have access to some rare collectors in the UK. I’ll make some inquiries and follow up if I dig anything up. There's got to be something out there.

This is the first I'm hearing about The World of Oz in Scotland, and I've followed lost theme parks for years. Could be a great find. Have you checked local archives? Sometimes newspapers or local TV stations have old footage or articles that weren't digitized.

Ah, The World of Oz, such a distant memory. My grandparents mentioned it a few times... said it was quaint, kinda makeshift compared to today's standards. Shame there's hardly any photos. A different time, no smartphones to save every moment, eh?
