Guys, I grew up with the original DKC games and just gave DK64 a fair shot. It's a blast but feels kinda different, ya know? There's more to collect and the world is huge, but it lacks that tight platforming from the OG trilogy. Still, transforming into different Kongs is super cool. Thoughts?

I feel you on the different vibe of DK64, yet there's something charming about that game. The music, the goofy characters, and the world Rare built is kinda magical. Sure, the tight platforming isn't there, but each Kong's unique abilities? Priceless!

As someone who's 101% completed DK64, I can say the satisfaction is in the completion. Sure, it's a ton of things to collect, but man, it's a rush when you get that last golden banana. It's a different game for sure, but it scratches that itch for collection and exploration.

The shift from the 2D platformers of the original trilogy to the 3D platform-adventure style in DK64 was a big leap at the time. Rareware was known for pioneering this with Banjo-Kazooie, and they carried that experience over to DK64. The focus on exploration and collecting fit the era's trend, but you're right, it sacrifices some of the precision platforming from the earlier games. You can see the evolution of Rare's game design philosophies during that period.

Totally get where ur coming from. The OG DKC games had that arcadey feel, super quick levels sometimes. DK64 is epic but def more of an adventure game. I mean, the collectibles are insanity! Still, love all the Kongs in it, especially chunky lol.
