Grooming 101: Your Furry Friend's Spa Day

So, I've been blessed with two amazing poodles, Bella and Millie. Over the years, I have learnt some cool grooming tips. Here's my take on Dog Grooming 101:

  1. Brushing: Depending on your pooch's hair, regular brushing can be weekly or daily. It helps get rid of dirt, dead hair and prevent matting. Always use a brush suitable for your dog's hair.

  2. Bathing: Less is more when it comes to baths. Frequent bathing can dry out dogs' skin. Every 4-6 weeks should be good and always use dog-friendly products.

  3. Nail Trimming: Ouch! Trimming your doggo's nails can be scary, for both. Make sure you're confident and calm. Also, have a styptic powder on hand in case of accidental cuts.

  4. Teeth Cleaning: Bad breath is a sign of dental problems. Regular at-home cleaning and annual vet cleaning can ensure your pup's pearly whites are actually white.

  5. Ear Cleaning: Regular ear cleaning prevents infections. Be gentle and use cotton balls or gauze, not cotton swabs.

Remember, be patient and treat him/her after every step. Turn grooming into a rewarding experience for your pooch!

Any more tips that worked for your pooch? Let's hear them all!

Bruh, nail trimming is a real nail biter lol. Pugsley gives me those puppy eyes, makes it seem I’m the villain here 🤣

Not a bad list. But where’s the love for dog deodorants??? Haha, jk. But seriously, in-between baths, they can be a real lifesaver from that 'doggy' smell.

Hey! Really comprehensive, kudos for that. With bathing especially, remember to slowly integrate the water temperature to your dog's body temp. Also, when using dryers, go for the cooler setting to prevent overheating them. Cheers!

Hey! Adore the tips, def what I follow for my two mutts! One weird tip they love - cucumber slices post-grooming!! Refreshing treat for 'em! Try maybe? 😆🥒

Patience is key. Can’t emphasize that enough! When we first started grooming our husky, Charley, he was none too happy about it. But we kept at it - calm, patient and lotsa treats. Now he just looooves getting his spa days. Just remember, it's all a process. 😊

Some solid advice here. Just throwin in my 2 cents as a pro groomer, I'd recommend investing in a high velocity dryer if your pooch has a thick coat. It's great for after bath times - removes excess water, reduces matting, and it's a game changer for shedding dogs. Just remember to introduce it slowly and use ear protection for your furry friend 🐶

Could not agree more with the less is more approach to bathing! Had to learn it the hard way. Rosie got all flaky and itchy when we were bathing her too often. Our vet recommended us to switch to once a month and it worked wonders! 🐾
