Alright, hear me out before you grab your torches and pitchforks. Everyone always says Aurora is boring because she's asleep half the movie, but there's so much more going on! See, Aurora represents the classic archetype of innocence and how it's threatened by the world (Maleficent in this case). Her character design is phenomenal, thanks to Eyvind Earle's work. That grace and beauty, paired with her operatic voice (props to Mary Costa), create an ethereal feel that no other princess has. The few moments she's onscreen, she's breathtaking and symbolic. So yeah, I'll defend Aurora to my last breath. Sleep on that!

Aurora is honestly underappreciated. Her narrative is deep rooted in fairy tale tradition. Her curse and eventual overcoming of it are metaphorical for the trials everyone faces growing up. It's the quintessential journey from innocence to experience. Plus, don't get me started on the rich tapestry of secondary characters she brings along; Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather add so much charm!

Aurora as the most interesting princess? Nah, she sleeps through her own movie. But ok, you got a point with the art direction and her design. I'll give you that, and maybe the operatic voice is cool, but she's not touching Mulan or Moana levels of interesting.

You had me at operatic voice! Mary Costa did bring a certain magic to Aurora. I think that sometimes we get too caught up in a princess’s screen time and actions and forget how influential and iconic their presence can be. Aurora’s voice is part of what makes her enchanting and memorable.

Interesting take! Aurora is often misunderstood. Beyond her aesthetic, the dichotomy of her character—born into privilege yet cursed, raised in hiding, and then thrust into a royal destiny—makes her more complex than she’s given credit for. Also, her interactions with the natural world and animals show a different side of her character. She isn’t just a princess; she's a bridge between the innocent and the wise.

Couldn't agree more!! The animation style alone sets Aurora apart from the rest. You can really see how Eyvind Earle was inspired by Gothic art—it’s like every frame with her in it is a work of art 🎨 Sleeping Beauty might not be the most plot-heavy movie, but it's a VISUAL masterpiece and Aurora's a big part of that.
