DIY Tire Sink – An Eco-Friendly Disaster

Upcycling is awesome, but not everything should get a second life. I saw someone turn an old tire into a sink base. Yes, a SINK. Waterproofing the insides, adding a basin on top, making sure it doesn't stink...baffling. Looks quirky, until you think of the rubber leaching every time you wash your hands. Novelty ain't worth chemical exposure, folks!

Next up: bedframes made from old springs and mattresses made out of leaves. Why stop at a sink? Haha, might as well turn my entire house into a rubber paradise.😂

I've seen it all now. Just because you CAN do something doesn’t mean you SHOULD. Tires are made with a cocktail of chemicals that could indeed leach under certain conditions. Sinks are used multiple times daily, which increases exposure risks. It's eco-friendly to reuse, but not at the expense of your health.

From a practical standpoint, a tire is simply not designed for that kind of use. They're optimized for road wear, not constant water exposure and potential freeze-thaw cycles, depending on where you live. Throw in the leaching risk, and it's just a hard pass. Seriously, there are better ways to be both eco-friendly and health-conscious.

Omg the HATE. But where's the creativity ppl??? Kudos to the tire sink person for originality. But yeah, the leaching stuff sounds like trouble - maybe there's a way to treat the tire to be safer?? Anyone know? Anyway, if it looks dumb but works, it ain't dumb... right??

So many things to upcycle into a sink base and someone chooses a tire? Really? Apart from the chemical stuff, imagine trying to clean around those grooves. No thanks, I'll pass.

I hear ya, but not all rubbers are built the same! Some are actually pretty safe and widely used in various applications including stuff in kitchens. I mean, if the tire was properly treated and sealed, might not be as bad as you think? Plus, it does look hella cool. 😎

Look, I love a good upcycle project. Saves stuff from landfills, y'know? But this... man, this is a MISSTEP. Like, we gotta consider health risks with this kinda Franken-crafting. You can't just coat it in Flex Seal and call it a day. Think of the long-term, folks! Chemicals are no joke. 😬
