Okay, so, this was a project. Tried to hand-craft a fork out of wood. Turned a nice piece of cherry into two hours of whittling. Finally got it sort of fork-shaped, but it was really rough and def not safe to eat with. Figured I'd sand it down, polish it, maybe even lacquer it. Got too excited, sanded too hard, and snapped it in half. Handmade wooden fork became two handmade wooden sticks. How's that for an artisanal DiWHY experience?

Just an FYI for next time. Make sure you're using nontoxic wood and sealant. Cherry wood usually has a high tannin content and could react weirdly with food, especially with acidic foods. There's a chance it may leach into what you're eating. Be careful!

Sounds like a bit of a fork up! Sorry, couldn't resist the pun. On a serious note, don't let this discourage you. Whittling down any type of wood is an art, and it requires a hell lot of patience. You learned a valuable lesson about how much pressure cherry wood can take when getting sanded. My advice, slow down the sanding next time and remember that by rushing, you might ruin all your hard work. Good luck on your next attempt!
