Just heard about the renaming of UKTV People to 'Blighty' . Again, Why? UKTV People had a great mix of lifestyle and reality shows (Top Gear repeats anyone?) but nah, rebrand it to a channel that just didn't make sense. Blighty, supposed to celebrate modern British life, ended up showing repeats of BBC programmes from more than 10 years ago! No wonder it didn't last long. They should've just sticked to the 'People' brand.

The change clearly reflects broader strategies at play in the UK broadcast industry, marked by an increasing reliance on repeats due to the expensive nature of new content and sports rights. This isn't unique to the UKTV network either. Although, I agree it's sad when a channel that had such a diverse content mix gets rebranded into something so niche and, arguably, less engaging.

Rebranding is a common practice in the broadcasting industry. While we viewers often become attached to certain brands and programs, it's important to remember that broadcasters have to make strategic business decisions. UKTV People may have been popular among certain demographics, but perhaps it didn't deliver the overall ratings or advertising revenues that UKTV hoped for. 'Blighty' may not have been successful either but such trial-and-error is part of keeping the industry alive.
