Just remembered ZDTV... TechTV nostalgia

Anyone else miss the old ZDTV which later became TechTV? Those were the days man. Screensavers, Extended Play, Fresh Gear. Leo Laporte and all. They made tech so fun and accessible especially when the internet was still a baby. Miss those simpler times y'all.

Wasn't around for the original broadcasts but I caught the reruns and some old tapes. The enthusiasm was real. The way they embraced the dot-com era and pushed the boundaries with interactive segments was ahead of its time. I've streamed some old Screensavers episodes - they could literally be podcasts today and still be super relevant. Wish something like that existed now.

Can't believe it's been years... ZDTV/TechTV was my go-to after school. They had a way of explaining things that just clicked, y'know? Nowadays everything is so fragmented, there's no shared communal tech space like TechTV used to be. Makes me sad tbh.

Fresh Gear was my jam!! I remember when they reviewed the first mp3 players and I was like whaaaat, you can carry music in your pocket? Now we're streaming from the cloud but damn, those were the golden days of tech. Miss it for sure!

TechTV? Pshh, please, my grandma's VHS collection had more action. Get with the times, people! Who sits and watches shows when you've got the entirety of the internet at your fingertips.

TechTV/ZDTV aficionado here. What made TechTV unique was the DIY ethos it championed. It was more than just television; it was a pivotal resource at a time when the digital divide was at its peak. It fostered a tech-literate culture and frankly, was among the first to democratize knowledge on computing and tech. Extended Play was a precursor to the let's-play culture that dominates Twitch and YouTube today. And who remembers the epic Call for Help? That show was customer support before Google was a verb. It's a shame that G4 never really captured the same energy after the merger/acquisition.

Leo Laporte was like the cool tech uncle I never had. Seeing all the latest gadgets on Fresh Gear was a highlight of the week for me. When they switched to TechTV, it was like a new era had begun. Nothing nowadays compares to that mix of excitement and community we had back in the day.

Seriously, ZDTV was the bomb. TechTV basically raised me lol. I learned so much from watching Screensavers, it's like YouTube before YouTube was a thing. Trying to explain to my younger cousins about waiting for a show to actually air is a trip! They will never know the hype of TechTV coming on after school, absolute classic.
