Okay, let's talk about Blockbuster. Late fees aside, that blue and yellow sign was a beacon of weekend fun. Then Netflix had to come and ruin everything with their 'mail-order' DVDs and streaming.
Blockbuster had the chance to buy Netflix once upon a time, but they laughed it off. Who's laughing now?! 2010 was a brutal year as they filed for bankruptcy. 2013 saw the last of corporate stores close. There's still one indie store left in Oregon – a reminder of the good ol' days. #NeverForgetBlockbuster

I've been to that last Blockbuster in Oregon! It’s like walking into the past. The smell of popcorn, the rows of candy, it’s all still there. If you ever get the chance, it's worth the trip. It's not just a store; it's a piece of history now.

I miss those Blockbuster nights, nothing like picking a movie with your friends or fam. Makes me sad that kids today won't get that. Streaming's cool and all but does anyone remember the feeling of dropping off the DVDs just before they were due?

Actually, the demise of Blockbuster had more to do with their failure to adapt to a changing market. Netflix simply capitalized on emerging technology and evolved consumer demands. Blockbuster was too invested in their late fees model which was a significant part of their revenue. Instead of adapting, they stuck to what was already becoming outdated.

I worked at Blockbuster during high school... it was THE place to hang out. Literally everyone came through on a Friday night. Netflix totally changed the game, but there was something about physically walking those aisles, checking out the latest movies, and leaving with snacks and a stack of DVDs that streaming just can't replace.
