Bait-and-Switch is an art and a clever trick, often delivered with a smirk. Its beauty lies in its unexpectedness and sheer audacity. When the user clicks a link expecting one thing but is presented with an entirely different outcome, that's the moment of a perfect bait-and-switch.
For many, it can be a prank or a joke but in the broader context, it’s a crucial part of modern-day marketing (though it could be unethical). Ever noticed how companies often advertise a product, only to switch it with a different one at the last minute leaving the customer surprised? That, my friends, is a classic bait-and-switch!
Apart from marketing such stunts are common in storytelling, comedy skits showing us how creative and diverse the application of bait-and-switch can be. But remember, there's a fine line between cleverly misleading and outright lying. Always use this strategy wisely, or it might backfire causing more harm than enjoyment.
In this sub, we admire, enjoy and analyze this art. Keep sharing your bait-and-switch moments, unraveling the surprise in every corner!

Marketer here. True, bait & switch does happen in our field, but just wanted to clarify that it's not something all or even most of us uphold. It's frowned upon in many circles and can indeed backfire spectacularly. The best marketing is honest and direct, building real relationships with consumers. So remember kids, don't bait & switch your customers!

This trick is wondrous in story arcs! Whenever I'm writing, I love leading my readers down a particular path and then - WHAMO - hit 'em with a surprise they never saw coming. It's like suddenly pulling the rug from under their feet! The art of bait-and-switch is such a thrill for storytellers. Time to share some of my tales...😉

Great summary. What defines the art of bait-and-switch is the viewer's surprise. It's more than just misleading - it's about subverting expectations, whether for a joke, a sale, or a deeper message. The ruse itself has to be ingenious. Cheap tricks are easily seen through and leave a sour taste. To truly excel in this field, one must learn to weave a deceptive narrative which, when revealed, leaves an impression. Respect the viewer and elevate the deception to an artform.
