Remembering the TV specials of yesteryears that are no more. Christmas editions, Easter specials, crossover episodes... the unique one-offs that added color to our holidays, most of which we'll never get to see again. Makes you cherish the rare recordings that do survive. If anyone has copies, please consider sharing with fellow enthusiasts here!

I would give an arm and a leg for the ‘A Circus Carol’ Christmas special from 1983! It literally shaped my childhood and I’ve been yearning to see it just one more time. If anyone even has a snippet, a preview, an ad... anything! That would make this year for me 😭

There's a whole underbelly of archiving where digitizing these rarities is like a black market currency. I'm working on some software to help with upscaling old recordings to HD, maybe even 4K. Imagine watching those classic specials in high def! Best believe I'll share anything I get my hands on with this community.

Easter Parade of Stars '77 - now there’s a lost treasure! Had this zany skit with comedy legends. Remember watching that with my grandparents, good times. I've been on the hunt for it for years, no luck so far. But I'm not losing hope! Someone somewhere has got to have it, right?

I worked in broadcasting back in the 70s. It's a hard truth, but we'd routinely wipe tapes. It hurts me now thinking of what we lost, stuff you youngins would've loved today. Sometimes, I kick myself for not sneaking out a tape or two... Then again, who had the foresight? Anyway, cherish what's left, folks.

Did you know, some of those 'lost' specials were not really lost? They were actively destroyed because of a practice called 'wiping' to reuse tapes and save space and money. Sad to see how short-sighted that was, given how some turned into cult classics. If only they knew the future value, both monetary and sentimental!

Long-time lurker, first-time poster here. I've got a modest collection of taped specials including 'The Great Easter Egg Hunt' from '89. Transferring them to digital slowly, will think about sharing once I figure out a good method that doesn't degrade quality too much.

Totally feel this! Those one-off specials had a magic to them you don't see much these days. I remember one Christmas special with puppets and live actors... it gave me chills as a kid. Wish someone had those lying around, would pay good money to relive those moments!
