Does anyone else remember those sunburns we ALL had back in the day before everyone started religiously applying SPF 50? Looking back, it seems crazy we spent whole summers without even a whisper of sunscreen, just unfazed by potential sunburns down at the beach or by the pool. We’d get so burnt, then spend a week peeling like lizards. Meanwhile, we just wanted a tan... Typical Aussie childhood!

As a lifeguard back in the 80s, I saw my share of lobster red folks. We’d often joke about needing sunglasses just to look at ’em! Now we take sun safety much more seriously, but back then, a wicked tan was just part of the job. Thankfully, times have changed and so have our attitudes toward skin care.

Honestly, felt like sunscreen was just this weird concept until I reached my 20s. The beach was THE place to be, sunburn be damned, and tan lines were like trophies, haha. I do not miss the pain of trying to sleep with a fresh sunburn though!

I recall walking home from the pool with my siblings, covered in sunburnt skin and being secretly delighted about seeing who would peel the biggest 'skin snakes'. My mum eventually got us into hats and some basic sunscreen, but we've definitely come a long way since then, thank goodness!

Hahaha back in my day getting sunburnt was just a part of the summer game, right? We'd slather on the coconut oil, which didn't help at all, but boy did we smell good. I'm amazed we all survived those years without more awareness of the cancer risks. But hey, we were always outside, riding bikes and swimming. Good times!
