Countdown Was the Best!

Serious question: is there anyone else out there who misses Countdown as much as I do? Molly Meldrum and his hats, those dodgy lip-syncs, and all the unreal music from the 80s. It was the ultimate Aussie music show! Spent so many Sunday nights glued to the telly with my siblings, arguing over which band's clip was the best. Man, kids today don't know what they're missing.

Countdown? More like CountDOWNtime to fall asleep. Put me right to bed every Sunday, just in time for school! 😂

Every Sunday was a ritual in our house, yeah, Countdown was THE announcement of what we’d argue about at school on Monday! Got my kids into some of those bands now, but they’ll never fully get it, I reckon.

I wasn’t around then but got curious and watched some clips online. Honestly, today’s music TV feels different, more polished but maybe less raw and fun? Molly's energy was something else!

Let's not forget that while Countdown was fun, the lips-syncing was often laughably bad. Plus, some performances felt really cheesy. But yeah, Molly made it all worthwhile with his bizarre interviews!

Haha I was never really into that, but my older siblings would go nuts waiting for it every Sunday evening.

You know back in '81, Countdown was THE place to see international acts, too! I've read Molly Meldrum once almost didn't get Bowie on the show because of a mix-up. Imagine missing out on those moments... gold!

Yes! Countdown was absolutely legendary! Remember when Duran Duran first hit the show or when INXS blew up? Those were the days, mate. Nothing like arguing with my siblings over who was the best performer of the night! Absolute classic.
