Shadowban - how do you actually know?

Might sound dumb but how do you tell if someone's shadowbanned? like do their posts just not show up or what's the deal? can any mod just do it or is it only for reddit admins?

Shadowbans are the assassin's blade of Reddit. Users walk around not knowing they've been hit. Their posts fall silently into the void. Drama aside, check for a user's active posts or comments. No confirmation? Likely shadowbanned. And remember, mods aren't the culprits, so don't shoot the messenger. Only admins can do the deed.

If you suspect a shadowban, check the user's comment history. Not seeing anything there when you know they've posted could be a sign. Also, mods can temp ban and permaban from their subs, but can't shadowban. That's the admin's ninja move.

Here’s what I do: use the Reddit API to fetch comments from a user. If the API returns an empty list but you can see the comments when logged in, bingo, shadowban. It's admin territory tho, us mere mortals (mods) can't wield such power.

just go to r/AmIShadowbanned and make a post. Watch as the world doesn't care about your ban! Seriously though, that's a good way to check.

I’m new here but from what I gathered, if you can see your own posts but they don’t get any upvotes or comments, you might be shadowbanned. Think this can only be done by admins. I could be wrong tho lol.

Shadowbanning is pretty sneaky. It means the user's activity looks normal to them, but nobody else can see what they post. It's an admin-level thing, mods can't shadowban but they can remove posts or ban users from their subs.

usually you can tell someone’s shadowbanned when their profile is not accessible or their comments/posts don't show up in the threads. mods can't shadowban ppl, only admins have that power.
